Members of the Biological Conservation Research Foundation (BICREF) are invited to join in the turtle release events after being actively involved in the rescue of turtles in need of assistance and having also volunteered to assist in the rehabilitation process itself.

 BICREF members and conservation biologist, Dr. Adriana Vella, have been involved in field research and conservation of these creatures for many years now and have been involved in many calls for assistance coming from various sea-users, from fishermen to AFM.   BICREF feels this release event is a time to thank all those persons and entities that actually made such rescues possible and who also assisted in taking these creatures to the rehabilitation site in Malta as soon as possible.  Special thanks for the rehabilitation of these turtles goes to the dedicated staff  and veterinary assistance available at San Lucjan turtle rehab. centre.

 BICREF believes the release event still needs to improve and the site should not be overcrowded just to make a publicity shot out of such an event.  Turtle disturbance should be at a minimum as these creatures prepare to return to that sea full of challenges including waste pollution, boats and fishing gear. Government’s determination to assist these creatures should be reflected by supporting and improving current rehabilitation facilities and ongoing turtle conservation research too.
